Chiropractic for infants, babies, toddlers and children
“Chiropractic care for my child? Why? Her back doesn’t hurt.”
Many parents appreciate the importance of regular checkups for their children’s teeth, hearing and vision but draw a blank when it comes to a spinal checkup. A spinal checkup could be one of the most important checkups your children will ever have. The spine protects billions of nerve fibers that send messages and energy to every part of their bodies.
Chiropractors tailor the adjustments to children. Special instrument or finger light pressure is all the spine needs most of the time when adjusting children. Children love to be adjusted and usually respond very quickly.
Infants and Babies:
A simple spinal check up now can make a big difference to your child’s health forever. From the time of the birth process, the spine (which houses the important nerve pathways of the spinal cord) can be injured in a variety of ways. The birth process itself is always a stress on the child’s structure.
We recommend a minimum of 5 critical spinal examinations according to the developmental milestones your infant achieves in this fast paced first year. They are as follows:
- The first week-recovering from birth
- At 2 months- holding head up
- At 6 months- sitting up
- At 8 months- crawling
- At 11 months- standing and /or walking
Common problems in infants often helped by chiropractic:
- Colic
- Irritability
- Gas
- Difficulty feeding
- Seizures
- Developmental delays
- Ear infections
- ADD/ADHD
Children:
Your children may have subluxations in their spines and not know it. Those first hesitant steps soon evolve into jumping and running, and falls and accidents are all part of a normal childhood. While most falls are minor, at times they can cause spinal, nerve-damaging vertebral subluxations with serious long-term consequences. For that reason all children need periodic chiropractic spinal check-ups.
If your child suffers from any of the conditions listed below, it is recommended that they receive a spinal check up. Chiropractic is by no means a treatment for those conditions, but because all children, especially if ill, need healthy spines to heal. Freeing the blockage of energy from the nerve system to the body can make a tremendous difference in the well being and healing potential of your child.
